Current stage of this work in progress. This scene developed from a sunset photo I found in a 40 year old magazine that I kept all these years (no, I'm not a hoarder). I loved the intense colours around this sunset and decided to place bulk carriers in this scene as they are a common sight in English Bay at Vancouver, anchored there awaiting their place at a berth to unload or load their cargo. I like to experiment with the colours and I love Alazarin Crimson and it became the dominant colour in this scene. (It's a very strong colour and generally needs to be applied with care, but I love hints of it in my work). Still need to paint in the anchor chain of the ship in the foreground, and looking for a better photo to authenticate the details better in the other ship as thus far the scene has largely come from my (hopefully fertile) brain.
